How to grow delicious and juicy watermelons and melons: the best planting dates in April

Choosing the right time for planting is crucial for both watermelons and melons, as these plants thrive in warm conditions.

Preparing the place

In Ukraine, the best time to sow watermelon and melon seeds is the second half of April. However, before planting, it is important to properly prepare the bed. About a week before sowing the seeds, you need to cover the designated area with a bag or similar covering to raise the soil temperature by several degrees. The temperature under the cover can rise to about 20 degrees, creating a favorable environment for optimal seed germination.

Planting

Some gardeners also take the lunar calendar into account when determining planting time, believing that it can affect yields. For those who follow this practice, the most favorable days in April are the 25th and 26th.

Additional days when crops can be planted this month are the 9th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 17th, 18th, 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 27th and 30th. April 15 is considered undesirable.

To ensure the successful growth of seedlings, proper seed preparation is necessary. They should be sorted by size, and strong plants should be separated from weak ones when planting in separate containers.
