When it comes to caring for blades, it is not only about keeping them sharp but also about maintaining their efficiency and service life. UAportal has prepared some tips to help extend the life of knives and scissors.

Using a grinding stone

To sharpen your scissors or knives yourself, one of the most effective tips is to use a grindstone. Place the grindstone on a flat surface and then press the blade firmly against the stone at a 20-degree angle. Slide the metal along the length of the stone, maintaining a constant angle and applying light pressure.

Using aluminum foil

Another tip for sharpening blades yourself is to use aluminum foil. Take a sheet of aluminum foil and fold it in four. Then cut through the foil several times with your blade. The abrasiveness of the foil will help sharpen the metal, making it ready for use again.

Using sandpaper

Blades can also be sharpened with sandpaper. Choose a fine-grained sandpaper and cut it into strips. Then, make several cuts in it. This will help to remove any dull edges of the blades and make the tools sharp again.

Cleaning the blades

Use a cloth dampened with rubbing alcohol to clean the blades of any dirt or other contaminants. This will ensure that the blade itself is being sharpened, not just the residue on it, leading to more effective results. It is also very important to dry the blades thoroughly to prevent rusting after cleaning.

Regular maintenance

After sharpening, the blades should be stored in a dry, clean place and checked for any damage before each use. By following simple preventive measures, you can extend the time between sharpenings and keep your tools sharp for longer.
