If you see yellowed seedlings, there is no need to panic or throw them away. UAportal offers solutions that will help save them.

Why the plant wilts

In nature, plants thrive when their leaves contain chlorophyll, which not only gives them their characteristic green color but also promotes photosynthesis. When the concentration level in the leaves decreases, it interferes with the photosynthetic process.

One of the common problems observed by gardeners is chlorosis, which can cause wilting and even death of the plant. This condition can occur due to infection or other factors.

The main non-infectious causes of chlorosis are

1. Lack of nutrients in the soil.

2. High levels of alkali in the soil.

3. Poor soil drainage.

4. Damage to the root system of the plant during transplantation or division.

Nutrient deficiency

When chlorosis is the result of a lack of certain nutrients in the soil, symptoms can manifest themselves in different ways, depending on the nutrient in question. It is very important to carefully observe the appearance of the plant.

Eliminate soil pH imbalances

Sometimes leaves can turn yellow even though the soil contains all the necessary nutrients. In such situations, the soil may be too alkaline, which prevents the absorption of important elements such as iron and nitrogen. To remedy the situation, acidify the soil by gently watering the plant at the roots with a solution of nitric or orthophosphoric acid.

Prevent waterlogging

It is important not to overwater the seedlings, as excess moisture can also cause yellowing. Proper drainage plays a crucial role in maintaining the health of your seedlings.
