Some people should refrain from getting a cat. Although some recommendations are more lenient, such as lack of free time, financial constraints, one particular group of people should heed them: unmarried people, primarily women. UAportal tells the reason why.

It is widely believed that unmarried girls and women should not get a cat, despite the feeling of boredom or loneliness during the evenings at home. Instead, they are offered dogs, parrots, or even rats as a more acceptable alternative.

But what is the reason for this caution? The fault lies with the cat itself.

Among unmarried ladies, the cat becomes a symbol associated with eternal loneliness. If the goal is to find a life partner and start a family, it is believed that it is advisable to postpone getting a cat, as potential gentlemen may be scared away by the presence of furry companions.

The reasons for this belief are deeply rooted in folk culture. Associations with witches accompanied by black cats often come to mind - a lonely, elderly woman whose only company is a cat.

Rationally, this superstition can be interpreted as a consequence of the excessive devotion that a lonely woman can give to her pet. By focusing on caring for the cat, she may inadvertently neglect opportunities for social interaction with potential partners.
