How to increase currant yield

Each gardener uses their own methods of fertilizing different trees and shrubs. UAportal has prepared some tips to help increase the yield of currants.
Fertilizing time
In the spring, currants need both organic and mineral fertilizers, which can be applied both directly under the roots and by spraying. To provide the plants with sufficient nutrition, it is necessary to fertilize them several times during the fall and spring. Remember that each stage has its own specific requirements.
When planting currant bushes in the spring, it is recommended to enrich the planting hole with a mixture of humus, soil and a handful of mineral fertilizers containing the necessary potassium and phosphorus. To achieve optimal results, it is very important to fertilize currants in the spring, as this is when the plants actively absorb the necessary substances from the ground.
The first fertilization should take place at the beginning of flowering or when the buds open. The second application is recommended during the formation of berries, and some gardeners suggest a third feeding in July, when the berries are ripe.
Details
In the spring, it is advisable to use complex mineral fertilizers enriched with sufficient nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and iron. As for organic fertilizers, potato peelings are popular and useful.
Potato peelings contain many nutrients and important trace elements necessary for optimal plant growth and development. It is a natural source of starch, glucose, iron, magnesium and even fluoride. Phosphorus contained in the peelings significantly stimulates the development of the root system and improves flowering.
In addition, starch, glucose and potassium increase the juiciness and sweetness of currants. The best part is that potato peelings are an affordable fertilizer, as you only need to collect the peelings accumulated over a long period of time.
However, before using potato peelings, they must be heat treated. Raw ones can contain harmful substances such as bacteria or fungi and can also germinate. You can dry them in the oven at a temperature of 80 to 100 degrees. Then beat and dig.
