When it comes to preserving food freshness, proper storage is extremely important. UAportal has learned about practical tips for preserving the freshness of fruits, vegetables, dairy products, and meat.

How to store fruit

Fruits such as bananas and apples can be wrapped in plastic film to slow down the ripening process. To keep berries fresh, try a vinegar bath by soaking them in water in a 1:3 vinegar to water ratio to kill mold spores. In addition, fruits such as tomatoes and avocados are preferably stored at room temperature until they are ripe and then in the refrigerator to prolong their freshness.

How to store vegetables

Carrots and celery can be stored in a container of water to keep them crisp for longer. Potatoes and onions should be stored in a cool, dark and well-ventilated place, keeping them separate. Blanching and freezing vegetables such as broccoli and green beans can extend their shelf life.

How to store dairy and meat products

Cheese should be wrapped in parchment or wax paper, not plastic, to allow it to breathe. Store meat on the bottom shelf of the refrigerator.

It is advisable to separate raw meat from cooked meat and store them in separate containers. Store eggs in their original packaging in the main part of the refrigerator.
