UAportal has prepared three important tips to help you keep your wooden kitchen utensils in perfect condition. Find out how to prevent moisture damage, how to nourish wood with oil, and the importance of using gentle cleaning methods to preserve the natural beauty of your cookware.

Keep it dry

One of the most important tips for maintaining the perfect appearance of wooden kitchenware is to keep it dry. Excess moisture can lead to wood swelling, cracking, or even mold. Therefore, after washing wooden utensils, it is very important to dry them thoroughly before putting them away for storage.

You can either leave it to air dry by placing it upright on a drying rack or wipe it dry with a clean towel. It is not recommended to leave the cookware in the sink or dishwasher where it may come into contact with excessive amounts of water.

Seasoning with oil

Another useful life hack for preserving the beauty of wooden kitchen utensils is to regularly oil them. For this purpose, it is recommended to use edible oil, such as mineral or coconut oil. Applying oil to the utensils helps moisturize and protect the wood from drying out or absorbing unwanted odors.

Rub the oil into the dishes with a cloth or your hands, making sure that all surfaces are sufficiently covered. Before wiping off excess oil, leave the cookware for several hours or overnight to allow the oil to penetrate the wood.

Avoid aggressive cleaning agents

Using harsh detergents can pose a risk to the wood of your cookware and strip it of its natural oil. Therefore, it is advisable to use milder alternatives such as mild dish soap or even hot water and a scrubbing brush to clean your wooden kitchen utensils.

Gently rub the utensils to remove food residue and rinse them thoroughly. If you need to disinfect, you can use a mixture of vinegar and water. However, it is very important to avoid soaking the dishes for a long time, as this can lead to deformation or splitting of the wood.
