Stains and blemishes may appear on down jackets after washing. However, there are simple and effective ways to address this issue. To achieve optimal results, follow these recommendations provided by UAportal.

1. Initial steps

Dampen a sponge or cloth with warm water and gently treat the affected areas. If this doesn't yield satisfactory results, additional washing may be necessary. For the second wash, avoid using detergent and focus on the extra rinse cycle.

2. Removing stubborn stains

Soak the down jacket in warm water for about half an hour. Apply a suitable stain remover specially formulated for the fabric to the affected areas. After the recommended period specified in the product instructions, wash the down jacket using the delicate cycle of the washing machine.

To prevent future stains, remember to run several rinse cycles at a spin speed of 600 to 700 rpm.

3. Thorough drying

The correct drying technique is crucial for your down jacket. Ideally, hang it outdoors. If this is not possible, dry it near a heater.

4. Dealing with persistent stains

Hydrogen peroxide can be a valuable tool for tackling stubborn stains. Dip a cotton ball in the peroxide and gently wipe the stained area. You should see effectiveness in a few minutes. Afterward, wash the jacket using a stain remover, and the stains should disappear completely.

If the problem persists despite these methods, consider consulting a professional dry cleaner. Note that hydrogen peroxide can only be used on white items.

5. Alternative options

In addition to the above methods, there are other effective ways to address stains on down jackets. Some specialized stain removers, excluding those containing chlorine, can provide excellent results.
