How to sow sorrel properly to ensure a good harvest

Spring is the time to ensure that all your vegetables are planted on time. UAportal tells you how to sow sorrel correctly.

Knowing the ideal time to sow sorrel is crucial. This herb can be planted three times a year - in spring, summer, and just before winter. For optimal results, the best time to plant sorrel is early to mid-April. Choose dates such as April 2, 3, 9, 12, or 13.

Sorrel is surprisingly hardy and can withstand the slight temperature fluctuations that often occur in April. Moreover, it thrives if watered frequently. Springtime, with its naturally moist soil, has the added advantage of giving the seedlings a boost.

The process of sowing and caring for sorrel is surprisingly simple. You don't have to do any thorough soil preparation or care for the seedlings before planting. Instead, focus on choosing an optimal site with fertile soil, sufficient moisture, and minimal weeds.

Prepare shallow furrows (about 2 centimeters deep) and space the rows about 20 centimeters apart. Make sure the rows are sufficiently moist and carefully sow the sorrel seeds, ensuring a tight fit in the rows.

After the initial planting is complete, your main task will be to water regularly during dry periods and prick them out - first when the leaves appear, and then after a few weeks. Remember that drying out of the soil can lead to premature formation of flower stalks and a subsequent decrease in the quality of the crop. After watering, loosen the rows and remove germinating weeds.
