Learning to read quickly is a valuable skill that many people want to develop, especially students and busy people who want to get information efficiently. Moreover, mastering this skill opens up opportunities to immerse yourself in many fascinating books without sacrificing time. To increase your reading speed, UAportal has prepared five effective techniques.

Mute your inner voice

Muting your inner voice while reading allows you to quickly process information without mentally saying every word. Giving up this habit saves a lot of time, ensuring that the brain absorbs information quickly.

Expand your field of vision

Training your eyes to cover an entire paragraph or page is important if you want to read fast. Widening your field of vision makes it easier to read text without focusing on individual words. Peripheral vision exercises, such as using the Schulte chart, improve this skill.

Stop rereading words

Get rid of the tendency to reread phrases, as this reduces your reading speed. To get rid of this habit, focus on avoiding procrastination and aimless reading. Practice keeping phrases instantly in mind so you don't have to go back to previous paragraphs.

Master "surface reading"

The skimming technique is a way to quickly isolate the most important facts from a large amount of information. This approach involves mentally highlighting key phrases from the text, which allows you to quickly get the information you need.

Control your reading speed

Before applying the above techniques, measure your current reading speed. Determine how many characters you read in one second, usually around 25 characters. Afterward, try to increase this number to 49.
