French onion soup: a classic recipe
French onion soup: a classic recipe

Onion soup is authentic French cuisine!

Here is a classic onion soup recipe:

Ingredients:

- 5-6 medium onions

- 50 g of butter

- 1 tablespoon of olive oil

- 1 liter of beef or chicken broth

- 150 ml of white dry wine (optional)

- 1 tablespoon of flour

- 1 bay leaf

- 2-3 sprigs of thyme

- Salt and black pepper to taste

- 100 g of hard cheese (e.g. Gruyere or Parmesan)

- 4-6 slices of baguette or loaf

Preparation:

1. Melt butter and olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.

2. Add thinly sliced onion and sauté over low heat for about 30-40 minutes until golden and caramelized, stirring frequently.

3. Add flour and mix well. Fry for another 1-2 minutes.

4. Pour in white wine (if using) and let it evaporate for a few minutes.

5. Pour in broth, add bay leaf, thyme, salt and pepper. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20-30 minutes.

6. Toast the baguette or loaf slices in the oven until golden brown.

7. Put the grated cheese slices on the baguette and bake again until the cheese is melted.

8. Before serving, pour the soup into bowls and top with a slice of toasted bread and cheese.
