Eye health is largely influenced by the foods we consume. UAportal has told you more about how to prevent vision problems with the help of right nutrition.

Carrots

Carrots are well known for their association with improved vision due to their high content of beta-carotene, which is converted to vitamin A in the body. Adding carrots to your diet can help maintain eye health and prevent vision loss.

Raw carrots are a healthy and convenient snack. To maximize the benefits of carrots, they can be combined with a small amount of healthy fat, as vitamin A is fat-soluble. Consider adding some hummus to your carrot sticks for this hearty snack.

Greens

Greens such as spinach, kale, and lettuce are a great source of lutein and zeaxanthin, two powerful antioxidants that help protect your eyes from harmful light and reduce the risk of macular degeneration and cataracts.

These greens can be incorporated into the diet by adding them to smoothies, salads, omelets, or soups to get nutrients that are good for the eyes. By lightly sautéing leafy greens with garlic and olive oil, you can create a side dish rich in essential vitamins and minerals.

Omega-3 fatty acids

Eating foods rich in omega-3s, such as salmon, sardines, chia seeds, and walnuts, can support eye health by reducing the risk of dryness and age-related macular degeneration.

Grilled salmon can be added to dinner, and chia seeds can be added to your morning yogurt or oatmeal for a hearty and nutritious breakfast. By snacking on a handful of walnuts, you can increase your omega-3 intake throughout the day and improve your eye health.
