If not a lot of it, ivy can beautifully complement the garden landscape. However, this hardy plant quickly turns into a problem. UAportal has prepared tips for ecological control of it.

English ivy is considered one of the most aggressive plants, the uncontrolled growth of which can harm any area. Awareness of its potential harm becomes paramount, as it can choke trees, swallow other plants, and provide an ideal shelter for rodents.

To get rid of this uninvited guest, there is a convenient way that does not involve pulling out every single shoot of ivy. However, before you start this work, you must use appropriate protective equipment, namely gloves and goggles.

The key to destroying English ivy is to first cut or break off the vine. For this purpose, secateurs are very effective. Cutting off the vines by the roots leads to rapid wilting.

Removing ivy without much effort

After successfully removing the vines, the next step is to use chemicals. However, for those who prefer a non-chemical approach, eradication proves to be quite easy. An effective alternative is to use a natural spray consisting of white vinegar and dish soap.

The dish soap acts as a surfactant that ensures that the vinegar sticks to the ivy. Care should be taken to prevent accidental contact with other plant species. It is best to apply this mixture during the day, when the sun is shining brightly and it has not rained for several days. After treating the ivy, it is recommended to wait several weeks until it is completely eradicated.
