In Israel, 16-year-old schoolboy Yonatan Frankel discovered a 1,600-year-old Roman oil lamp during an excursion. The boy handed the object to his teacher, who passed it on to the guide, who was responsible and made sure that the lamp fell into the hands of an archaeologist from the Israel Antiquities Authority.

The oil lamp found in the fortress of Zafir was made in Petra, Jordan, in the IV-V centuries AD. It is reported by i24NEWS.

Similar lamps were found in the fortress of Hatzeva, Mamshit, the fortress of Yotwata, and Petra. A lamp identical to this one was found only about 90 years ago by archaeologist Nelson Glueck, also in the Zafir Fortress.

From the fourth to the sixth century, an ancient trade route passed through this area. To ensure the transportation of copper and possibly even gold, a line of fortresses was established between the top of the Scorpions Pass and Hatsava. Patrols of Roman cavalrymen kept watch over this important road.
