How to store onions so they don't get moldy

Onions can become soft and moldy over time if stored in the wrong place. But this is much less likely if you use one convenient storage method.

While most onions keep for an average of three months, there is one storage method that can keep them fresh for much longer. All you need are clean tights, according to Express.co.uk.

Onions need to breathe to keep them fresh for a long time. It absorbs moisture more easily than other vegetables.

Tights with tiny holes provide enough ventilation to keep the onions free of excess moisture. Cut off the top of a leg from the tights to create a tube-like bag, then fill the tip of your foot with a few onions.

Tie the top opening tightly to close it and only open it when you need to use the onions. The bag can be stored in a cool, dry place in the kitchen, away from direct sunlight and heat sources.

The most important step is to rinse and dry the onions thoroughly before storing them to protect them from any residual dirt or moisture.
