How to store cheese properly, depending on its type

Cheese will last longer if you know how to store it properly. The conditions differ depending on the type of cheese.

Experts explained that mozzarella, for example, should be stored in plastic packaging or in brine and enjoyed within a week of opening. This was reported by Express.co.uk.

For optimal storage in the refrigerator, wrap soft cheeses in a layer of parchment or wax paper and then in a loose layer of foil. Soft cheeses can also be vacuum-packed and stored in the freezer for up to two months.

Although their texture may change slightly, especially for premium varieties, freezing is still an option. Afterward, simply move the cheese from the freezer to the refrigerator to defrost it.

Harder cheeses with less moisture content, such as Parmesan and cheddar, are considered semi-hard. For longer preservation, wrap them in parchment or wax paper, followed by a layer of plastic wrap or foil.

Similar to soft cheeses, these varieties should be stored in a food drawer or in a cooler place in the back of the refrigerator. If mold appears on a hard cheese, it is usually safe to cut off the affected area and eat the rest.

Store shredded and sliced cheese in its original package or transfer it to a resealable bag for storage in the refrigerator. This way it will retain its quality for one to two weeks after opening.
