Heating specialist explains how to quickly get rid of cold spots on the battery
In winter, radiators in some homes can be cold to the touch in certain places. Heating experts assure that this is not a terrible problem and can be solved quickly.
According to engineers from Ideal Heating, at first the radiator will heat up a little more at the bottom, as this is where the new hot water comes in. However, if there are cold spots after 15-20 minutes of operation, you need to pay attention to them, according to Express.co.uk.
The most likely reason why the radiator is cold at the top is trapped air. To make the radiators warm up again, you need to blow them out.
Start by locating the exhaust valve at the top of the radiator. Sometimes the valve is right at the end of the radiator, pointing along the wall. Other times it is a small bolt.
While most exhaust valves require a release wrench, you can sometimes find one that opens with a screwdriver or wrench. Make sure the heating is off and the radiators have cooled down.
Place rags or towels on the floor under the valve and place a container, such as a cup, directly under the valve. Then gently turn the valve clockwise until you hear a hiss. This is the air being released.
As you remove pressurized air from the radiator, it fills with water. It's very difficult to tell when it's almost full because it fills silently, and since it's off, it won't get any warmer.
However, be prepared to close the valve when you see water leaking out of it. After that, make sure to close the valve carefully enough, as over-tightening can cause the bolt to twist.
