Why put salt on the windowsill

During the cold season, condensation often appears on windows, which can lead to mold. This is not only unpleasant, but also unhealthy.

To get rid of this problem, you can use ordinary salt. It has the ability to absorb moisture, so it can effectively prevent condensation and mold, the Express reports.

How to use salt to combat condensation

There are two ways to use salt to combat condensation:

  • Place a plate of salt near the window. The salt will absorb excess moisture, which will help prevent condensation.
  • Make a homemade dehumidifier. To do this, pour as much salt as possible into a large plastic container. This dehumidifier will be more effective than a plate of salt.

If the salt has hardened, what should I do?

If after a few days the salt has absorbed a lot of moisture and hardened, do not rush to throw it away. Simply microwave the product for a few minutes and it will become soft and can be reused.

Why does salt help get rid of condensation?

Salt has the ability to absorb moisture. This is because salt molecules have a higher electrical charge than water molecules. When water comes into contact with salt, its molecules are attracted to the salt molecules and leave the surface.

Thanks to this property, salt can effectively prevent condensation and mold.
