For orchids to grow and bloom well, they need to be properly cared for. It is especially important to care for orchids in winter, when daylight hours become shorter and the air temperature drops.

How often to water an orchid in winter and with what solution, Santeplus publication reported. It is noted that orchids are watered less often in winter than in summer. This is due to the fact that plants grow slower in winter and require less moisture.

In general, an orchid should be watered when the substrate in the pot is completely dry. On average, this can be done every 2-3 weeks.

How to properly water an orchid

Orchids should be watered by immersion. To do this, the pot with the plant is lowered into a container of water for 30-60 minutes. After the substrate in the pot is completely saturated with water, it should be removed from the container and the excess water should be allowed to drain.

Do not water the orchid from above, as this can lead to root rot.

As for the solution that will not only nourish the orchid but also stimulate flowering, experts advise using cow's milk, which is rich in calcium and nitrogen proteins, which are useful for good orchid growth.

Milk also has antifungal properties, and it can be used to prevent fungal diseases that can affect your plants, such as powdery mildew.

To fertilize your orchids, add some settled water to the milk carton and water the plants. However, be careful not to use too much milk, as this can cause an unpleasant odor and slow down the growth of your plants. Also, prefer skim or semi-skim milk to whole milk.

To fight fungal diseases, dilute one part milk into 4 parts water and water your plants with this solution every 2-4 weeks.
