A rare fish that lives at a depth of 100 to 700 meters was caught in Italy. It has a pig-like face and a shark-like body.

The photos of the creature were shared on the Facebook page dedicated to the Elba Island of the Tuscan archipelago Isola d'Elba App.

A rare specimen of Oxynotus Centrina, commonly called the "pigfish" or "grunting shark", was found dead in the Medici dock in Portoferraio on the island of Elba.

The fish was just over a meter long.

The Isola d'Elba App noted that Oxynotus Centrina got its name because it makes a sound reminiscent of a pig grunting. This individual lives on the seabed at a depth of 100 to 700 meters.

It is a rare species that can be found in the Mediterranean and is also considered a vulnerable species.
