Moths will no longer touch your clothes: simple folk methods to kill pests
Dress moth

Household moths are a type of harmful insect that can cause significant damage to things and products in your home. It is particularly aggressive towards materials containing fur and wool, as its diet is based on keratin.

Due to the peculiarities of its stomach, the moth can effectively digest this material, producing the necessary amount of acid.

The most common type of household moth is the dress moth, food moth, or fur coat moth. Fur coat moths spoil things made of natural materials, especially those made of fur. Clothes moths appear in wool or fur products, imperceptibly damaging their structure. And food moths spoil food and infect it with their larvae.

Moth butterflies avoid bright light, so they can be found in dressers, pantries, and wardrobes or shelves with clothes.

Methods of preventing the spread of these insects depend on their species, and the choice of products to combat them can range from chemicals to folk methods.

If you find holes in your clothes, it could be a sign that you have a laundry worm. These small creatures feast on natural fibers such as silk, fur, wool, and linen. They can cause significant damage to your clothes if they are not detected and destroyed immediately.

How to get rid of moths in clothes:

If the clothes are severely damaged, unfortunately, they will have to be thrown away. If the moths have not damaged the clothes too much, they can be disinfected. First, wash the clothes in a washing machine at a high temperature to kill the moth larvae. Then treat the closet or shelves where the clothes were stored. This will help remove moth eggs and larvae that may be hidden in hard-to-reach places.

Use a vinegar solution (2 parts vinegar and 4 parts water). Then put sachets of lavender or other aromatic herbs in the closet. Moths do not like strong odors such as lavender, cloves, rosemary, or mint. You can put these aromatic herbs in tulle bags or soak cotton balls in essential oil.

Also, place bay leaves in the closet where your clothes are kept. They are the enemies of these pests.

Seasonal clothes that you do not wear should be stored in airtight bags or cardboard boxes. This will help protect them from moths.

Avoid using mothballs. Naphthalene is a chemical that can be harmful to health. It is also not very effective in the long run.
