Franko's favorite dish: How to cook sauerkraut
Sauerkraut is a traditional Ukrainian dish made from sauerkraut, millet, and sour cream. It is easy to prepare and has a rich flavor.
For a richer flavor, you can add finely chopped herbs to the cabbage and millet. If you want the dish to be more spicy, add a little garlic or chili pepper. Sauerkraut can be served as an independent dish or as a side dish to meat or fish. The recipe was shared on the noviydoctor website.
Ingredients
- 1 kg of sauerkraut
- 1/2 cup of polished millet
- 1 egg
- 100 g of sour cream
- 3 onions
- Salt and pepper to taste
Preparation
- Wash the sauerkraut well and squeeze it out. Finely chop and cook in salted water for 15 minutes.
- Pour boiling water over the millet and leave for 15 minutes. Then drain the liquid.
- Beat the egg with the millet.
- Pour the millet and egg over the cooked cabbage. Do not stir until the millet is completely swollen.
- Dice the onion and fry in a frying pan. Add sour cream and mix well.
- Add the fried onions and sour cream to the cabbage and millet. Add salt and pepper to taste.
- Cook for another 10 minutes until tender.
