Sauerkraut is a traditional Ukrainian dish made from sauerkraut, millet, and sour cream. It is easy to prepare and has a rich flavor.

For a richer flavor, you can add finely chopped herbs to the cabbage and millet. If you want the dish to be more spicy, add a little garlic or chili pepper. Sauerkraut can be served as an independent dish or as a side dish to meat or fish. The recipe was shared on the noviydoctor website.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg of sauerkraut
  • 1/2 cup of polished millet
  • 1 egg
  • 100 g of sour cream
  • 3 onions
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Preparation

  1. Wash the sauerkraut well and squeeze it out. Finely chop and cook in salted water for 15 minutes.
  2. Pour boiling water over the millet and leave for 15 minutes. Then drain the liquid.
  3. Beat the egg with the millet.
  4. Pour the millet and egg over the cooked cabbage. Do not stir until the millet is completely swollen.
  5. Dice the onion and fry in a frying pan. Add sour cream and mix well.
  6. Add the fried onions and sour cream to the cabbage and millet. Add salt and pepper to taste.
  7. Cook for another 10 minutes until tender.
