Better to sleep standing up: chemist shows that 'lives' in pillows (video)
Hlib Repich tested pillows

A well-known Ukrainian chemist, Hlib Repich, conducted an experiment that clearly demonstrated how many microbes can accumulate on pillowcases and pillows.

The expert took samples from a pillowcase he had been using for two weeks. Then he kept them in a thermostat for a day and examined them under a microscope.

The results of the experiment shocked Repich and his followers. An amazing variety of microbial colonies were found on the pillowcase, including the actinobacillus Micrococcus luteus, potentially dangerous staphylococci, and even representatives of the fecal flora (forms of proteins).

"The sweat and oil that our skin secretes create ideal conditions for bacterial growth. Even if your pillow looks clean, it's not always the case," Repich explains.

The expert emphasizes the need to wash bedding at least every two weeks. This is especially important for those with problem skin.

"Washing the pillowcase in hot water (60-90 degrees Celsius) will help kill most germs. You can also use antibacterial laundry detergents," Repich advises.

We would like to add that scientists from Amerisleep reported that a pillowcase can contain 3 million bacteria after a week of use. Researchers found allergens, fungi, and dead skin cells on pillowcases.
