Experts note that this year the number of snakes in Ukraine has increased significantly. Now they can be found even in big cities. There are especially many of them near private houses, where they live in gardens, vegetable gardens and flower beds.

Although, for example, snakes do not pose a danger to humans, there are also poisonous snakes that can be very dangerous. That's why experts advise planting certain types of plants around the yard that scare away reptiles with their smell. TSN writes about it.

What plants scare away snakes and other snakes

  • Chrysanthemums. These beautiful flowers contain pyrethrum, a chemical compound that is deadly to snakes. In addition, pyrethrum is used as a natural insecticide to combat aphids, ants, and ticks.
  • Garlic. Snakes do not like the smell of this vegetable. The most effective way is to make a tincture of garlic and periodically spray the area around the house with it.
  • Yellow alder. This plant not only repels reptiles, but also attracts various types of butterflies to the garden.
  • Wormwood. Snakes absolutely cannot stand the smell of wormwood. Therefore, if wormwood grows on your site, it will help protect your yard from reptiles.
  • Basil. This fragrant herb not only repels snakes, but is also a great seasoning for salads and meat dishes.
  • Marigolds. These flowers repel not only snakes but also rodents due to their pungent aroma.
  • Schisandra. This plant is often used in insect repellents, and it is also effective against snakes and poisonous snakes.
  • Holly. This evergreen shrub is extremely toxic to reptiles and humans due to saponins that cause vomiting and diarrhea.
