Dyeing eggs for Easter is not just a fun tradition, but also a great way to express your creativity. There are many ways to dye eggs, but one of the most popular and affordable is to use beetroot broth.

Beets are an all-natural dye that does not contain any harmful chemicals. A decoction of this vegetable gives eggs a beautiful rich red or burgundy color. Coloring eggs with beets is a simple process that does not require much time or effort. Glavred writes about it.

Ingredients:

  • Beets - 2-3 pieces (depending on the desired color)
  • Water - 1 liter
  • Vinegar 9% - 1 tbsp
  • Salt - 1 tbsp. l
  • Eggs - as many as needed

Method of preparation:

Beetroot broth:

    • Wash the beets thoroughly and put them in a saucepan.
    • Pour water over the beets so that they are completely covered.
    • Bring to a boil and cook over medium heat for 30-40 minutes.
    • Add salt and vinegar to the pot.
    • Leave the broth to cool to room temperature.

Coloring eggs:

    • Boil the eggs hard-boiled (about 10 minutes) and cool them in cold water.
    • Strain the beetroot broth through cheesecloth to remove the beet pulp.
    • Immerse the eggs in the beetroot broth and leave them for 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on the desired color intensity. The longer the eggs stay in the broth, the more intense the color will be.
    • Stir the eggs occasionally to ensure that they are evenly colored.

Tips:

  • For a brighter color, add 1-2 tablespoons of vegetable oil to the broth.
  • To make the eggs marbled, crack the shell with a sharp knife before dipping into the broth.
  • After dyeing, the eggs can be wiped with vegetable oil for shine.

Coloring options:

  • Light pink: 2 beets per 1 liter of water.
  • Deep pink: 3 beets per 1 liter of water.
  • Burgundy: 4 beetroot per 1 liter of water.

Important:

  • Use fresh eggs as old eggs may not color well.
  • Do not use iodine to color eggs as it can be dangerous.
