Protective whitewash is an effective and affordable way to protect your fruit trees from harmful environmental factors that is worth applying in your garden.

It protects trees from frost and sunburn, fights fungal and bacterial infections, and repels pests, writes prostoway.

Ingredients:

  • 9 liters of water
  • 1 kg of lime
  • 300 g of copper sulfate
  • 1 liter of hot water
  • 1 tablespoon of carbolic acid

Preparation:

  1. Combine 9 liters of water and 1 kg of lime in a bucket. Mix thoroughly until the lime is dissolved.
  2. Dissolve 300 g of copper sulfate in 1 liter of hot water in a separate container.
  3. Pour the copper sulfate solution into the bucket with the lime solution. Stir it well.
  4. Add 1 tablespoon of carbolic acid and mix again.

Application:

  • Apply the whitewash to the trunks and skeletal branches of trees with a brush or roller.
  • Treat trees in dry and calm weather.
  • The best time for whitewashing is early spring or late fall.

Tip:

  • Before whitewashing, clean the tree trunks of old bark and lichens.
  • For better adhesion of the whitewash, you can add 100 g of PVA glue to the solution.
  • Do not use slaked lime for whitewashing, as it can burn the bark of trees.
