Shadow garden: how to create an elegant green corner under tree crowns
It's important to understand which plants thrive in shady places and which ones thrive in the sun. UAportal has prepared tips for better planting.
Although it is well known that all plants need sunlight for photosynthesis and growth, some species have adapted to the shade.
Shade can be different
In southern regions, a wide variety of plants can be planted in shady areas. However, in northern regions, there may be restrictions, with greens and salads being the main option.
Dappled shade, which is usually created by light passing through trees such as cherry, plum, or apple trees, provides an ideal environment for most plants to thrive. Dense shade caused by pine trees, high walls, or fences can inhibit the growth and maturation of light-loving plants such as pumpkins and watermelons.
Does not affect yields
Crops such as garlic, onions, cucumbers, beans, and asparagus can be grown in the shade. In addition, plants such as sorrel, lettuce, rhubarb, spices, horseradish, radishes, beets, and white cabbage can be successfully grown in the shade too.
Shade-tolerant berries such as raspberries, blackberries, and red currants also do well in shady locations.
Perennial plants that are well suited for such shading include periwinkles, lilies of the valley, forget-me-nots, ferns, violets, and tulips.
