How to keep the garden free of couch grass
Gardeners often face the problem of fighting various types of weeds in their beds. Thus, UAportal has prepared useful eco-friendly tips for dealing with couch grass.
Deep mulching
A thick layer of organic mixture, such as straw or wood chips, can be used to suppress the weed and prevent it from germinating. Mulch also helps to retain moisture in the soil and improves its overall condition, creating an unfavorable environment for couch grass to thrive. Adding a layer of powder regularly is essential to maintain the effectiveness of the mulch.
Solarization
This method involves covering the infected soil with a transparent plastic tarp to harness the sun's heat and essentially bake the weed to death. If left in place for four to six weeks during the hottest time of the year, the couch grass and its seeds will surely die.
Raised beds
By raising the growing space, you can achieve greater control over the soil composition and reduce the likelihood of couch grass taking root. With such areas, it is easier to prevent the spread of the weed and reduce the need for excessive weeding or herbicide applications.
