Colorado potato beetles can harm potato crops by causing significant damage to the leaves. UAportal has prepared advice on how to deal with these beetles without harming the plants.

Although specialized stores offer a variety of products to combat these pests, some gardeners prefer to use a DIY approach by creating their own trap from raw potatoes and water. This method is not only effective, but also contributes to environmentally friendly pest control.

All you need is a plastic or glass bottle with a narrow neck. Fill the bottle with raw potatoes and add half a cup of water. The smell of raw potatoes will lure the beetles, forcing them into the trap.

By placing several of these traps throughout the area, you can significantly reduce the beetle population. For optimal effectiveness, it is important to replace the bait (potatoes and water) every 5-7 days.

In addition to Colorado potato beetles, this trap can help catch other pests such as mole crickets or slugs, which contributes to comprehensive pest control in the garden. Unlike chemical alternatives available in stores, this DIY trap does not harm crops or soil, making it an environmentally friendly choice.
