Caring for fruit crops properly is the key to their longevity and high-quality harvest. UAportal found out when it is best to whitewash trees in spring.

Whitewashing in spring protects tree trunks and branches from sunburn. Since the sun is especially intense at this time of year and trees do not yet have leaves to protect their bark, whitewashing provides the necessary protection against overheating.

In addition, spring whitewashing serves as a preventive measure against pathogens and pests that may have survived the winter in the cracks of the bark and the surrounding soil. Therefore, it is recommended to whitewash twice a year - in the fall and spring - to ensure comprehensive protection of your trees.

The best time to do this work is in February or early March. By applying a layer of lime to the trunks and supporting branches, you create a reflective surface that repels the sun's rays, effectively protects the bark from excessive heat, and ensures the tree's recovery process is not delayed.
