If you're going on vacation, don't worry that your houseplants will suffer from neglect. UAportal has told you that by following these simple recommendations, you can keep your flowerpots safe even while on vacation.

Determine the type of plant

All plants have different needs. Water well before you leave those that require less attention, such as succulents, yuccas, and cacti. For more delicate plants, ask a friend or neighbor to take care of them while you're away.

Inspect the plants

Before you leave, there are a few important tasks to complete. Carefully inspect your plants and remove any yellowed, damaged, or diseased leaves, stems, or flowers. In addition, thinning will help reduce moisture loss and minimize nutrient use.

Lighting

Sunlight has a strong influence on the water requirements of plants. If possible, place your flowerpots on north-facing windows to minimize exposure to sunlight. Alternatively, place a table in the room on which to place the plants, striking a balance between the need for light and moisture retention.

Avoid fertilizers

Refrain from fertilizing your plants a few weeks before you travel. Excessive green growth caused by fertilizers increases water consumption. Instead, focus on providing balanced nutrition upon your return.

Create a watering system

In the absence of caretakers, it's wise to set up a simple watering system for your plants. This may include developing a basic system or building a makeshift greenhouse. Before you leave, water the plants thoroughly and cover them with clear plastic to retain moisture.
