How to store bread in hot weather
UAportal tells you about the best way to store bread in hot weather. Although traditional wooden bread boxes are popular, they may not be the best option during the summer months due to the increased temperature and humidity levels.
Bread has a short shelf life, and it can go bad within days of baking. To prolong its freshness, it is better stored in a cool and dark place. However, in summer, it can be difficult to achieve such optimal storage conditions.
Experts advise against storing bread in hot and humid environments, as even a bread bin may not provide adequate protection. Warm air from the outside can reduce the effectiveness of dark wood containers specifically designed for storing bakery products. A refrigerator is another option that some people consider, but it is not necessarily the best solution.
Ideally, fresh bread should be stored in a cool place to prevent mold from forming, and this also applies to packaged sliced bread. In conditions of normal temperature and humidity, it is useful to store bread in closed containers.
German nutrition expert Birgit Brendel recommends using ceramic or clay containers to store bread. These materials ensure proper air circulation and moisture exchange, effectively preventing mold and spoilage. However, low temperatures, especially near or below 0°C, can cause moisture to form on the crust surface, resulting in changes in weight and flavor.
It is important to avoid paper and plastic bags. These materials impede air circulation. Plastic bags, in particular, slow down the drying process, increasing the risk of moisture accumulation and mold growth. Any trapped moisture inside the bread can create an environment conducive to the growth of microorganisms.
