Summer is a magical time of year that is full of interesting plans and pleasant memories. However, there is a dark side to vacations and holidays that requires our attention. Scorching heat and relaxation often contribute to an increased risk of road accidents. UAportal tells you about the main dangers drivers face in the summer and suggests how to effectively avoid them.

Concentration

Minimize distractions while driving by not using your phone and refraining from talking to other passengers. Also, try to get plenty of rest before driving.

Sleep deprivation is dangerous all year round, but the combination of extreme heat outside and coolness inside the car can make you feel drowsy all of a sudden. If you feel tired while driving, be sure to take breaks, drink citrus juice or soda, and avoid drinking coffee in this situation.

City driving

If you're a novice driver, use online simulators, carefully familiarizing yourself with all traffic rules, before returning to driving in the city.

It is even advisable to follow these rules when traveling out of town, including signaling turns, keeping to the lane and speed limit, treating these conditions the same as your daily commute in the city. Also, never give in to the temptation to drive after drinking alcohol even if it's just a glass of wine.

Hot roads

In some regions, it is forbidden for heavy trucks to drive on highways at temperatures above 28 degrees.

Given the condition of the roads, we recommend avoiding long-distance travel during peak heat. Plan your trips for cooler hours of the day, such as early morning or late evening. Don't forget to have your tires checked regularly, as good quality tires significantly reduce the risk of accidents regardless of weather conditions.

Unexpected rain

Choose summer tires that not only perform well in hot weather, but also disperse water effectively. Tires with a symmetrical, non-directional tread pattern increase grip on wet surfaces, making them ideal for roads that have been soaked by rain.

If you feel unsure about driving in the rain or on unfamiliar roads, it is advisable to avoid the trip altogether. Consider alternative modes of transportation, such as taxis or public transportation, until the weather improves.
