Sponges of different colors are designed for different dishes: What you didn't know
Contrary to popular belief, colors are not an arbitrary marketing tactic aimed at making dishwashing sponges visually appealing or unique compared to competitors' products. In fact, each color performs a specific function and indicates the type of dishes that a particular sponge is suitable for washing.
We often choose sponges based on factors such as price or attractive packaging. UAportal tells why you should consider the color when choosing sponges.
When inspecting a sponge, pay attention to its abrasive side, not the foam side. Here's what you need to know about each colored option:
1. Red sponges (medium hardness)
These sponges are ideal for tough tasks, such as descaling kettles or cleaning very dirty plates. They provide a moderate degree of abrasiveness to effectively tackle stubborn stains.

2. Green sponges (high hardness)
If you need to remove stubborn dirt on baking trays or other hard-to-clean surfaces, choose green sponges. Thanks to their high hardness, they provide sufficient cleaning power to tackle stubborn dirt.
3. Yellow sponge (low hardness)
Delicate dishes such as porcelain or glass need a gentle touch. Yellow sponges with a lower hardness are ideal for cleaning such items that require careful handling.
Sometimes you can find sponges with blue or black abrasive particles on the market. These options have the same level of hardness as the metal sponges commonly used to clean soot from trays or pans, which means they are effective for heavy-duty tasks.
