Things that add age: how not to fall into the trap of wrongly chosen clothes

Clothes are a manifestation of your personality and style. It can emphasize your uniqueness and help you feel confident. When you choose your clothes well, you create the impression of elegance and style. Properly selected clothes can visually change your figure and hide flaws that you want to disguise. For example, the choice of cut and style creates the illusion of longer legs or emphasizes the waist. It is also important to remember that clothes have a powerful ability to visually change the perception of age. Sometimes the wrong clothes make us look older than we really are. Even experienced fashionistas can fall into this trap, because we are not always able to look at our outfit objectively and detachedly.

To avoid mistakes, we, together with Anna Romanko, a well-known creative fashion stylist, fashion influencer, and style expert, have selected the most common fashion traps that make women look 5, 10, or even 15 years older.

Classic suits

Women love strict classic suits that resemble men's.

However, if you choose such a suit, Anna advises paying attention to accessories. The lack of appropriate accessories and shoes, such as shoes with a rounded toe shape, can make you look several years older.

"No need to give up on classic suits! There are easy ways to update the classics and make them more modern. I advise you to combine a classic jacket with jeans and loafers and dilute classic trousers with playful sneakers. In this way, you will complement the classic style with elements of casual and sporty style, fully adapting it to the present," advises our fashion expert Anna.

Bags with an old design

Massive bags that reflect the style of a certain era are rarely in tune with creating a harmonious look.

Unfortunately, such bags can even negatively affect the look you've carefully put together. Old-fashioned bags are often associated with handbags that were popular among our grandmothers. Sometimes they also feature vintage embroidery. In addition, the fabric of such bags often looks careless. To avoid mistakes with accessories, it is better to choose minimalistic and modern items. They are easy to work with, and you won't have to worry about matching your bag with other things.

Dresses made of thin knitwear

Thin knitwear can have two problems that can cause visual aging and reduce appeal.

The expert warns that thin knitwear does not have sufficient stiffness, so it is unable to hold its shape.

"This means that knitted dresses, sweaters, or skirts will look sloppy and unpleasantly highlight figure imperfections, gathering in folds or hanging down. This effect makes a woman look older," says Anna Romanko.

Secondly, thin knitwear quickly frayed, becoming untidy, cheap and too plain in appearance. After just a few washes, fine knitwear loses its original appeal and starts to look a little worn.

This does not mean that you should avoid knitwear completely. However, our stylist advises you to choose items made of a denser fabric that provides better structure. Such a fabric will look more elegant and well-groomed and will retain its shape and attractiveness for a long time.

Fur coat made of fur

The habit of adding bright, massive brooches to fur coats made of natural fur will not bring you anywhere good... Such combinations are reminiscent of an old grandmother's outfit.

Fur coats made of natural fur have strong associations with old age and a very traditional style of ancestors, so it is very difficult to find a modern and trendy model that does not add a few years.

"I recommend choosing faux fur products. As an alternative to fur coats, pay attention to silhouette coats that add femininity and elegance," says Anna Romanko.

Shawls and knitted shawls

Such things can only be used at costume parties.

These things are also rooted in the past. When a middle-aged woman wears a knitwear scarf, for example, she resembles a grandmother. Why? Because we often see older people wearing these kinds of accessories. It is normal for them. However, in society, knitted scarves are often associated with age and add years to anyone's life, it's their thing.

There are many other ways to keep warm!

Shoes with perforations

From time to time, even in luxury stores, you can find shoes with holes on the shelves.

But we pass them by.

"Perforation can play a cruel joke on you and add an extra ten years to your life just by having such a bad design. It is not fashionable, comfortable or hygienic. And yes, shoes with holes were fashionable in your grandmother's time, because it was from those times that it passed into the present," says Anna.

Skirt-godet

Godet is a combination of classic and ruffles.

It was popular in the past (and hasn't lost its popularity), but the problem is that it can have a negative effect on the figure. Slender women wearing this skirt can make their figure look disproportionate. The skirt is even less suitable for women with bulky hips. It can create inconvenience where before everything looked normal and harmonious. As a result, you visually age.

Ruffles create excessive volume and cover important parts of the image, such as the shoulders and neck.

In addition, they are associated with teachers or librarians. If you want to emphasize your shoulders, it is better to choose modern blouses and dresses with an emphasis on this area.

Inappropriate jewelry

Plastic and costume jewelry are intended mainly for young girls, while large red stones, typical of the Soviet Union, are more often associated with grandmothers. Both groups of jewelry are not suitable for elegant women.

"I recommend choosing light and modern jewelry using precious metals," Anna summarizes.

Swamp colors

The stylist recommends avoiding the use of marsh, olive, and warm shades in clothes, regardless of age.

These colors can make the face look pale. Some people look quite unhealthy when they wear such shades. It is recommended to choose colors that emphasize natural beauty and look harmonious with your skin tone.
