In the Kruger National Park in South Africa, a touching footage of a rare pink elephant playing with another calf in a pond was captured.

The elephant has pink skin and blond hair due to albinism, a genetic disorder that stops the production of melanin, the pigment responsible for the color of the eyes, hair, and skin, Live Science reports.

Albinism occurs only once in 10,000 births of wild mammals, according to Theo Potgieter, the safari cameraman who took the photo of the baby elephant.

Albinism can have several negative consequences, such as poor eyesight, difficulties in obtaining food, and vulnerability to predators.

In this case, however, the elephant calf seems to fit in well with the herd. "In both recent sightings of two different individuals, the rest of the herd seemed to be very protective and patient with the presence of these young individuals," Potgieter said.

"It is always a privilege to witness these extremely rare and special animals," he added.
