Dinosaur egg 80 million years old found in China
A unique archaeological discovery was made at a construction site in the city of Gangzhou, where scientists discovered an extremely rare dinosaur egg clutch dating back 80 million years.
The 2021 find includes six eggs of a previously unknown dinosaur species found in a perfectly preserved nest. The most impressive is the size of the best-preserved specimen - only 29 millimeters, making it the smallest known dinosaur egg in the world. This is reported in the journal Historical Biology.
A detailed analysis of the find was conducted by scientists from the China University of Geological Sciences and the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology. Using modern non-destructive research methods, the scientists were able to study the structure of the eggs without damaging them.
