How to grow kiwi from seeds at home

Kiwi is a delicious and healthy fruit that can be grown at home in a pot. For planting kiwi, it is better to use fresh seeds that have been harvested this year.

Kiwi is a heat-loving plant, so it should be kept in a warm place in winter, writes prostoway. If you want to accelerate the germination of seeds, you can soak them in a solution of a growth stimulator.

For this you will need:

  • Ripe kiwi
  • A glass
  • Water
  • A napkin
  • Cloth
  • Plastic bag
  • Pots for flowers
  • Expanded clay
  • Special soil for tropical plants

Step-by-step instructions:

  1. Choose the ripest kiwi so that it is undamaged with an even skin. Cut the kiwi in half and use a spoon to separate the flesh from the skin. Mash the flesh until smooth.
  2. Put the kiwi pulp in a glass and cover with water. Stir everything with a spoon and leave it for a day to settle.
  3. After that, collect all the black bones floating on the surface.
  4. Put the kiwi seeds on a napkin to dry for 3-4 hours.
  5. Wrap the seeds in a cloth and cover with water so that the cloth is well moistened. Cover with a plastic bag and place in a warm place. Add a little water every day to keep the fabric from drying out. In a week, the seed will be ready.
  6. In flower pots, place expanded clay on the bottom for drainage.
  7. Fill the pots with tropical plant soil.
  8. Make several holes in the soil 5 to 10 mm deep. Place 1-2 kiwi seeds in each hole.
  9. Sprinkle the seeds with soil and cover with warm water.
  10. Cover the pots with foil and leave them in a warm place.

Caring for kiwi

After the first sprouts appear, the film can be removed. Plants should be watered regularly, but not flooded. You also need to make sure that the soil does not dry out.

Kiwi loves bright light, but does not tolerate direct sunlight. Therefore, it is better to choose a place for it in partial shade.

The first fruits can be harvested in 2-3 years.
