Cling film needed: an unusual way to get rid of a toilet blockage

A clogged toilet is an unpleasant situation that anyone can face. After flushing the water, you expect everything to disappear, but instead, the water rises into the bowl, signaling problems with the pipes.

Don't panic, because there are easy and affordable ways to unclog a toilet without calling a plumber. There are many causes of toilet clogging: a clogged vent, improper installation or flushing, damaged pipes, too much paper stuck in the pipes, limescale build-up.

How to clean the toilet with cling film

This method may sound strange, but it really works. All you need is cling film.

Cover the toilet bowl with two or three layers of cling film, pressing it tightly to the edges so that no air remains. Rinse off the water. The film will begin to swell under water pressure. Gently press down on it with your hands. The pressure created will help to clear the blockage. Remove the film and throw it away. Your toilet should be clean and ready to use again.

Alternative methods for unclogging the toilet:

Detergent: Pour half a cup of liquid detergent into the toilet bowl. Due to its slippery consistency, the detergent will help flush out the blockage.

Boiling water: Pour boiling water into the toilet bowl. This is similar to the sink cleaning method, and boiling water can be effective in unclogging, especially if used after the detergent.

Bakingsoda and vinegar: Pour a cup of baking soda into the toilet bowl and then add a cup of white vinegar. This mixture forms a foam that can dissolve the blockage.

If the blockage cannot be cleared using these methods, you may need the help of a plumber.
