How to store green onions to keep them fresh twice as long: tips from housewives
Green onions are not only a tasty ingredient for many dishes, but also a storehouse of vitamins and minerals. Unfortunately, they have a short shelf life, so it's important to know how to keep them fresh for as long as possible.
Typically, green onions can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. But we will show you how to make this period longer. Shuba writes about it.

Here are some practical tips:
Make the right choice:
- Green part: evenly colored, without wilting. Dry tips are a sign of short-term storage.
- White part: dry, no rot.
- Bundle: not too tight, no signs of damage.
Store in the refrigerator:
Do not wash onions before storing them! This will only accelerate its spoilage.
- Wrap in foil: Wrap the dry part in foil and leave the green part open. This will keep the onions for up to 7 days.
- A bag with holes: Place the bunch in a ziplock bag to allow air circulation. Freshness is preserved for up to 15-20 days.
- Wet paper: Wrap the roots in damp paper, place in a bag and change the paper regularly.
- Glass of water: Immerse the roots in water, change it daily.
Freezing:
- Cut: Wash, dry and chop the onion well.
- Pack: Arrange in containers or bags.
- Freeze: Store in the freezer.
Remember:
- Check the condition of the onions, remove damaged parts.
- Use damaged onions as soon as possible.
- Frozen onions will lose some of their flavor and color, but will still be healthy.
