A cut avocado darkens quickly, but you can easily influence this. There are some simple ways to keep avocados fresh for longer. Ukrainian nutritionist Liudmyla Matushynets shared two effective methods to keep a cut avocado fresh and appetizing for longer:

Lemon:

  • Lubricate the avocado flesh with fresh lemon juice.
  • Vitamin C and the acidity of the juice will create a protective barrier against the air, slowing down oxidation.
  • The avocado will stay bright green and attractive for longer.

Onions:

  • Place a slice of onion in the container with the avocado.
  • Close the container tightly.
  • The natural sulfur compounds in the onion act as a preservative, preventing the avocado from darkening.

Tips:

  • Choose ripe but not overripe fruits.
  • Store avocados in the refrigerator.
  • Use containers with an airtight lid.
