How to clean a bottle from green coating and whether it can be used further
Many people face the problem of green scale that forms on the bottom and walls of plastic water bottles. Not only does it spoil the aesthetic appearance, but it can also be harmful to health. Fortunately, there are several simple and effective ways to clean your bottle.
Why does a green coating appear? The answer was given in the UNIAN edition. The reason for the appearance of green coating is algae, which grows in any container with water. Algae spores get into the bottle with air when you open it. For their active reproduction, they need light and heat, which triggers the process of photosynthesis, which releases chlorophyll, a green pigment.
Can I drink water with a green tint?
Yes, in most cases, water with a green coating is safe to drink.
Such algae are not dangerous and do not harm the human body.
However, if the scale has an unpleasant odor or clouds the water, it is better not to drink it.
How to store water to prevent scale formation?
To avoid the problem of cleaning bottles, follow these rules for storing water:
- Use PET containers only for one-time storage of water.
- Store empty bottles in a cool and dark place.
- Close the containers tightly to prevent the ingress of foreign microorganisms.
- Do not place water bottles near radiators or heaters.
- The ideal temperature for storing water is between +4 and +14°C (can be refrigerated).
- Do not use drinking water bottles to store other liquids.
- Disinfect the containers regularly, without waiting for the appearance of a coating.
If you do get stained and can't clean it quickly, it's best to replace the bottle with a new one.
